Your Visit
The first visit for acupuncture therapy can seem intimidating for those who have never experienced it before. Please be assured that acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment for a variety of health issues – to help you understand what to expect during your first visit, here’s a brief overview:
1
Full Case History
You will be asked to provide some information about yourself and your current problem. Some further questions will then be asked about your past medical history, diet & lifestyle choices as well as your current sleep patterns and stress levels. Your Acupuncturist will spend some time discussing this with you. It is important that you can be as open as possible as all the information gathered helps to form a picture which is used to help resolve your problem.
2
Tongue, Pulse, Face & Eye Diagnosis
You will now be made very comfortable on the treatment couch. You can have a heated blanket and cushions to support all areas of your body. Once comfortable and relaxed your acupuncturist will take a closer look at your tongue. The tongue is one of the microcosms of the body and is like a mirror or map to the rest of the body. It is used to get a picture of your health at that moment in time.
Your face and eyes will also be observed as this further helps to build the picture of the overall state of your health. Finally the pulses in both your wrists will be read. Just like the tongue, a lot of information can be gathered by nuances in the pulse. The pulse indicates overall health and strength of energy.
3
Report of Findings & Treatment
With all the information gathered your acupuncturist will suggest a treatment plan including an approximate number of sessions, what to expect during the treatment and afterwards you will be provided with after care information. A treatment will now commence and could last up to 1 hour.
NOTE: On occasions after the initial consultation has been completed it may not be the best option to treat you and we will discuss how best to proceed. The initial consultation including the tongue, pulse, face and eye diagnosis is free of charge.
